The 2022-23 winter season was one for the record books! We won’t forget the intense storms that delivered prodigious amounts of snow to our forecast zones, the amazing days playing in all that powder, the long periods of frigid temperatures that kept the skiing and riding conditions stellar, and the many days of HIGH and EXTREME avalanche danger. What may not be as obvious are the records the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center (FSAC) hit.
This season, more of you than ever backed FSAC in our mission to deliver life-saving avalanche information and education. Our community turned out in record numbers to our Homegrown Film Festival and the 509 Snowmobile Film Party. More people than ever showed generosity and commitment to FSAC by joining our monthly and annual membership program. We met many of you and got a chance to say hi to familiar faces at our Digging Deeper series lectures. And, our Avalanche Awareness field days were such a hit we added extra sessions to our calendar to meet the demand.
Your generosity allowed FSAC to provide record-breaking financial support to the Sawtooth Avalanche Center (SAC) forecast team. The Friends provided approximately 50% of the SAC’s budget—over $100,000—to cover critical expenses including forecaster wages, safety equipment, remote weather station parts, and website development. It is only with your support that the SAC-FSAC team can continue to deliver the state-of-the-art, life-saving avalanche information and education you need.
Thank you for showing up in support of FSAC!
