Homegrown Film Festival 2022!!

Nov 25, 2022

The “must see” 6th Annual Homegrown Film Festival is back December 3rd at The Argyros in Ketchum.  Homegrown is a celebration of the cinematic and athletic achievement of people who call this place home. The festival showcases the work of our celebrities and professionals, while also giving a platform to local youth and up-and-comers, and it does so by supporting our local Sawtooth Avalanche Center with all proceeds

Our program for Homegrown Film Festival 2022 is a bit different – and we’re really excited about it…

To complement our flagship Annual Show at the Argyros at 6:30pm featuring an hour of 1 to 3-minute amateur films with an hour of 3to10-minute pro films, we’re hosting an afternoon Matinee. The afternoon matinee will start at 3pm featuring 15-30 minute films until 6 pm including an hour of classic vintage ski films by Dick Barrymore and world premiere of remastered Gary Bigham films featuring Dave Moe, aka Captain Powder. FYI this is the 50th Anniversary of Powder Magazine founded by brothers Dave and Jake Moe right here in Sun Valley in the winter of 1972!  Additionally, we will livestream the 6:30 PM show, real time, at the Limelight hotel for a “chat & hang” style Livestream viewing and afterparty.

Homegrown is all about the people who make the films and are featured in the films. They comprise our diverse local mountain tribe whether they are airing it big off the Proctor Mountain jump while mentoring up and coming school aged athletes; slashing spines and captaining fishing boats in AK; or making cinematic impacts on the protection of treasured national and international public lands and rivers to ensure a safer and more sustainable future. Here they gather with all of us each year to share their adventures and perspectives.

The Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center will be on hand for their Ultimate Raffle including a Sun Valley Heli lift to the top of Baldy for 4, Black Diamond Skis, Line Skis, Passes, Fine Dining Certificates, Pit Viper sunglasses and GEAR from all our sponsors featured on the poster.

This year, we wait in anticipation to see which mountain, or couloir our local valley artist and icon Jack Weekes will design for our festival. This year we are more than excited to see he chose Abe’s Chair, above Smiley Creek with a lone, moonlit skier out on dawn patrol! Jack produces a limited edition of 50 hand pulled serigraph prints sold by the Friends at the Festival for $100 which is a steal for an original artwork of this caliber with the bonus of supporting the Sawtooth Avalanche Center.

Matinee and live tickets are available for purchase online via www.homegrownfilms.org which directs you to the Argyros ticketing platform. You are also encouraged to purchase a $10 ticket at the Friend’s website to come chat, hang, ooh-and awe, and celebrate at the Limelight hotel with our live stream option.
